Opencart Default Currency Change

About

Extension helps you change the default currency by re-calculating all prices in new currency.

Background: OpenCart supports changing the default currency, but will not convert the prices into the new currency. So - by changing the price, price of products remain the same number. The same applies to all other store prices - special price, prices in shipping modules, coupons and more.

You can use this extension whenever you need to change the currency in which you input prices in the store.

If you do not land on the Default Currency Change extension page, go to Extensions → Product Feeds and edit "Default Currency Change"

Features

Simple usage

All you need is install the extension and choose the new default currency. The extension will

• change the default currency,
• change the currency rates for all installed currencies accordingly,
• change all relevant Opencart price records (see the list below )

Automatic backup of prices and a restore option

Due to the fact that radical changes are made to the database, extension will create a backup copy (only for tables that have been changed). If necessary, you will be able to restore the prices and currencies as they were before the default currency change.

Uninterrupted store operation

All price changes are made directly in the database and the whole process should be less than 15 seconds. After the change cache is cleaned and the store will show the new prices.

Limitations

• prices are rounded to 4 decimasls (this is Opencart default). Due to this there might be some loss of accuracy when changing back and forth from one currency to another.
• automatic backup before the convertion saves only the prices and store settings. It is not saving whole database backup. You should do full backup before installation yourself as a best practice.

• The prices are recalculated for the extensions listed below. If you need to change prices in other extensions, you must do it manually:

Installation

1. make full backup of your database and files
2. Copy the Upload folder contents to you store root directory
3. Go to Extensions → Product Feeds and install extension "Default Currency Change"

Usage

Change Of the Default Currency

1. Check that your target currency exchange rate is as accurate as possible.
2. Go to the "Default Currency Change" extension and edit it
3. Choose the new default currency
4. push button Change Default currency

The script will automatically make a backup copy of your pices before changing the prices to new values.

Restoring prices from backup

1. Edit extension,
2. click on Backup & Restore tab.
3. Click on Restore tab
4. choose the backup file and click on Restore link.

Manual backup of prices

Optionally you can save a backup of prices to freely named file.
